While some can write for hours at a time, researchers say that journaling for at least 15 minutes a day three to five times a week can significantly improve your physical and mental health. Writing creatively allows you to craft a coherent narrative and shifting perspective, according to Jessica Lourey, a tenured writing professor, sociologist and author of 15 books, including "Rewrite Your Life: Discover Your Truth Through the Healing Power of Fiction." Creative writing, such as fiction or poetry, can also be a form of journaling - and it can help you move past traumatic experiences. There are no rules as to how or what you must write about. No, these gags are all heightened, inexplicably so, pointing in the direction of three different genres and deciding that plugging adorable CG animals into those genres will generate comedy through incongruity, or some such damn thing. That conceit was used up by the 10-minute mark of the first movie. And not gags that address the secret life of pets, what they get up to when humans aren't around. It's basically just 86 minutes of watching loosely-connected pet-themed gags play out (the running time is much the best thing about the film). ![]() That would appear to have been too much effort for SLOP2, which contains three more or less autonomous plot strands, and forgets to put a conflict into two of them. And what do we generally get when filmmakers are obliged to effortfully crap out a follow-up to a story that didn't need one? A brazen re-tread, exaggerating the plot points of the original but not fundamentally altering them at all. This was always going to be a cash-in project, inspired more by the first film's jaw-dropping box office receipts (it was the most profitable release of 2016) than by Renaud's muse. Let us agree to set aside as an impossible fantasy of the airiest sort any chance that this was made because screenwriter Brian Lynch and director Chris Renaud passionately believed in the new story they'd devised to return us to this world. But it still deserved more than The Secret Life of Pets 2, which is really and truly one of the most uninspired sequels that I think I have ever seen. ![]() The point is that The Secret Life of Pets is not good. A railing might technically count as cover, but bullets will pass right through the gaps in the bars. The shape of the cover matters, as does the angle of your attacker. The fact that every projectile is modeled drastically changes how the cover works compared to nearly every other game. On the flipside, that all applies to your soldiers as well. This matters because different units have various amounts of armor on different limbs, and you can even disable certain attacks or abilities. Additionally, you have complete control over a soldier’s aim, and different body parts can be targeted. You can reasonably predict what shots are worth taking rather than rolling the dice. However, to get anywhere in Phoenix Point, I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew. They clearly have a lot in common with turn-based combat, geo-scape, base building, and research trees all culminating in fighting off a worldwide hostile threat. When looking at Phoenix Point, saying the game definitely isn’t X-COM might sound ludicrous. An experience of truly behemoth proportions. The Behemoth Edition drives that point home with the inclusion of several DLCs that can be overwhelming at first but adds undeniable value and enjoyment to the game. Not because Phoenix Point is necessarily better, but because it takes that formula and molds it into a game that is definitely not X-COM, but everything I wanted X-COM to be. The natural power of that which we take for granted. Whilst TRON looked toward the future of a digital age, TRON: Legacy saw the real beauty of the nature that exists outside of the grid. And to do it in a reviving format feels all the more notable, highlighting the obscure revival of a once-dying format in a technological world. It solidifies not only the importance of the soundtrack within Daft Punk’s catalogue, but the importance of soundtracks as a whole.
